These supplies are multi-tap, multi-voltage supplies in either full or half rack formats, 1 rack space high. Multi-tap refers to the fact that each of the outputs are separate and isolated from each other. This is the case when the output voltage requirements are AC in nature as opposed to DC, in which multiple outputs most often share a common ground. We use high quality, low noise torrid transformers which emit a low stay hum field. This is critical in rack mount installations where space is often at a premium. Terminations are whatever is required, but are usually 2.5mm barrel connectors. Other features include a front panel mounted fuse holder and a power indicator lamp.
Sometimes it is necessary to isolate DC voltages from each other to eliminate ground loop hum in critical applications. At CAE, we use high quality DC/DC converters for this purpose. This device, when used properly, can eliminate many sources of noise and make a pedal think it is connected to a battery! Of course, this adds considerable expense to power supply cost, so we use them in only when necessary. When considering a power supply check carefully each device to determine voltage/current requirements and terminations. When in doubt, call us and describe the unit. We can probably figure it out over the phone. Lead time for power supply construction is usually 10 days to 2 weeks.
